What is an Alligator Farmer?
An alligator farmer, or crocodile farmer, is someone who breeds and raises alligators or crocodiles in order to produce leather, meat, and other goods.
Alligator and crocodile meat has long been a part of Cajun cuisine as well as African and Asian cuisines. Chinese medicine believes the meat to be a curative food for cancer prevention and colds.
Both alligators and crocodiles are farmed internationally, and alligator or crocodile production in environmentally controlled farms is similar to the production of poultry and swine.
An alligator or crocodile farmer must have excellent management skills, providing adequate nutrition, a non-stressful environment and proper physical conditions. They must keep detailed records on environmental conditions and feed consumption in order to minimize any stress on the animal.
