What is a Jingle Writer?

A jingle writer works with advertising agencies to help sell a product or reinforce a brand name in the minds of consumers — they create catchy, memorable tunes and lyrics for TV or radio commercials, and will compose, arrange, and sometimes record these songs.

The jingles they create need to suit the product that is being promoted and be based on the guidelines of the client. Often a client has specific words or phrases that the jingle writer must include.

A jingle writer is generally a good musician and music arranger, and either owns or has access to the proper equipment needed to get the job done.

Are you suited to be a jingle writer?

Jingle writers have distinct personalities. They tend to be artistic individuals, which means they’re creative, intuitive, sensitive, articulate, and expressive. They are unstructured, original, nonconforming, and innovative. Some of them are also social, meaning they’re kind, generous, cooperative, patient, caring, helpful, empathetic, tactful, and friendly.
